Updates begin on Wayne’s outdated master plan

According to Wayne Mayor John Rhaesa, “The City of Wayne received notification from the State of Michigan that they will be providing technical support to the City to update the outdated master plan.
This incredible opportunity has been made possible with the support of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Redevelopment Ready Communities Department. Without this support, the City would have had to eventually identify funding ($50,000-$60,000) in the general fund to complete this required update.”
“The master plan is just the first step in the city becoming certified by Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC), which would allow the city to apply to certain grants from the state that we currently do not qualify for. RRC is a program run through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation that measures and certifies communities that integrate transparency, predictability and efficiency into their daily development practices, according to the MEDC website.”
“Along with the benefits of becoming an RRC-certified community, the current plan is in need of an update, with the last master plan update occurring in the 1960’s.”
“A City’s Master Plan also serves as a guide for public and private decision-makers regarding the future physical development of the City. The master plan is composed of documents, or “elements,” that cover the City’s major geographical areas and its essential citywide facilities. These plans provide a framework for preserving the City’s unique character, ensuring its diversity, supporting investment and promoting desired change.”
“This project will begin in the next month and we will be asking for the community’s input as an integral part of the process moving forward.”
