Bright Futures for WMHS Grads
By Sarah Shurge – The Class of 2015 from Wayne Memorial High School has promising futures thanks to hard work and perseverance. The class has earned $5 million in scholarships so far and has 17 valedictorians.
Ashlyn Barnes is the daughter of Rhonda Jones and Michael Barnes and is graduating with a 4.08 GPA. She will be attending Western Michigan University and majoring in Psychology.
Brittney Behlow is the daughter of Lynne Behlow and is graduating with a 4.04 GPA. She will be attending the Michigan State University and majoring in Pre-Veterinary Science.
Navreet Bhangu is the daughter of Jaswinder Kaur Bhangu and is graduating with a 4.125 GPA. She will be attending the Michigan State University and majoring in Human Biology and Pre-Medicine.
Victoria Boyd-Jennings is the daughter of Terrine Boyd and is graduating with a 4.06 GPA. She will be attending Central Michigan University and majoring in Psychology.
Drake Carpenter is the son of Amanda Buckley and Jason Carpenter and is graduating with a 4.16 GPA. He will be attending Kettering University and majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Rachel Cherian is the daughter of John and Sally Cherian and is graduating with a 4.04 GPA. She will be attending Wayne State University and majoring in Pre-Pharmacy.
Matthew Fischer is the son of Susan Huzar and Edward Fischer and is graduating with a 4.17 GPA. He will be attending the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and majoring in Biomedical Engineering or Political Science.
Tyler Harnos is the son of Keith and Teresa Harnos and is graduating with a 4.16 GPA. He will be attending Michigan Tech University and majoring in Chemical Engineering.
Michelle Johnson is the daughter of Michael and Emily Johnson and is graduating with a 4.02 GPA. She will be attending Eastern Michigan University and majoring in Early Childhood Education.
Jordan Khalaf is the son of Maher and Stacy Khalaf and is graduating with a 4.14 GPA. He will be attending the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor and majoring in Biology.
Tessa Leake is the daughter of Joel and Nina Leake and is graduating with a 4.10 GPA. She will be attending Ferris State University and majoring in Pre- Medicine.
Danialle Lynn is the daughter of Ginger Rader and Steven Lynn and is graduating with a 4.03 GPA. He will be attending the Wayne State University and majoring in Biology.
Kaitlyn Kuder is the daughter of Donald and Kimberly Kuder and is graduating with a 4.02 GPA. She will be attending the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and majoring in Pre – Medicine.
Megan McCurry is the daughter of Douglas and Jennifer McCurry. Megan is graduating with a 4.19 GPA. She will be attending Central Michigan University and majoring in Biomedical Sciences and Neuroscience.
Kyle Spurlock is the son of William and Doris Spurlock and is graduating with a 4.37 GPA. He will be attending the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor and majoring in Computer Science.
Janae’ Strickland is the daughter of Del and Keith Strickland and is graduating with a 4.12 GPA. She will be attending Harvard University and majoring in Government and Economics.
Jessica Wallace is the daughter of Dashawn and Leon Wallace and is graduating with a 4.02 GPA. She will be attending Ohio State University and majoring in Zoology.
There is also one Salutatorian.
Vincent Morgan is the son of Mardina Morgan-Pajot and is graduating with a 3.956 GPA. He will be attending Central Michigan University and majoring in Chemistry.
163 members of the Class of 2015 earned an Honors Diploma for maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher for the entire school year, while 65 of those students kept a 3.6 GPA or higher.
“Being able to use as much of the school’s resources as possible to help you grow as a person was the most important part of high school for me,” said Spurlock. “And the most terrifying is happening now because I have to give a speech.”
“There wasn’t a most terrifying moment for me during high school. I wasn’t the typical freshmen that came into high school and was terrified. I already knew a lot of people because of marching band, so that helped,” said Khalaf. “Plus I don’t back down from a challenge.”
