Check out Indie Art and Craft Jam in Goudy Park
By Sarah Shurge – If you appreciate handmade, boho, and whimsical, then there is an upcoming event in Wayne for you.
Mark your calendars because the Indie Art and Craft Jam will be Sunday, May 19th from 12-5 pm at Goudy Park.
The Indie Art and Craft Jam will have over 40 makers and artists from southeast-Michigan. These makers and artists will offer a diversity of homemade items such as ceramic, painting, macrame, jewelry, stained glass, refinished furniture, etc.
The hosts, Creative Sol Makery (5909 Middlebelt Rd, Garden City) and Helium Studio (3127 S Wayne Rd, Wayne) will also have a booth at the event.
“I think our show has a nice variety of makers. We want to make sure everything from the music, to the food, to the makers, represents a particular vibe,” said Kim White-Jenkins, Helium Studio owner. “We want to give a great experience and a different experience than other shows give.”
This will be the sixth year White-Jenkins and Charlotte Lawrie Cabanaw, Creative Sol Makery owner, have hosted Indie Art and Craft Jam.
Originally when they started hosting the show in 2021, the event was in Garden City (where Creative Sol Makery is located), however this year, they decided to change the location to Wayne (where Helium Studio is located).
“I’m looking forward to seeing the neighborhood and people from surrounding cities coming out and discovering downtown Wayne, our beautiful Goudy Park, and just enjoy being outside and appreciating art,” said White-Jenkins.
Indie Art and Craft Jam will have live music from a local Garden City group, Crampton Brothers.
There will also be food trucks on site. Hogz Backyard BBQ will offer sandwiches, smoked meats, and sides.
Covered in Frosting is a pop-up bakery that will provide desserts. Fudgey Grandma’s Coffee will offer coffee drinks.
“People love supporting handmade,” said White-Jenkins. “Come on out and meet your neighbors.”
Helium Studio has been in Wayne for nine years and features 40-50 artists and makers’ (many from Michigan) handmade goods.
Their mission is to uplift, to inspire, and to engender positivity through their collection of local, indie, vintage, and handmade goods (such as: jewelry, wearables, home decor, accessories, and more).
Creative Sol Makery provides customers with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to learn something new about their creative self. Their mission is to bring the excitement of art back into the community.
Creative Sol Makery has more of a New Orleans vibe, with vibrant color pieces and DIY brands.
Indie Art and Craft Jam is partnered by the Wayne Downtown Development Authority (DDA).
“We appreciate the support from the DDA and bringing this event to Wayne,” said White-Jenkins.

They are featuring makers with ‘Makers Spotlight’ posts. There will be two posts a day until the event, so you can see what makers are attending the event and view their work.
“Be inspired by people who create art and bring your family and bring your wallets. This is all about supporting artists and the best way you can support, is to buy something (large or small). So come, shop and be inspired,” said White-Jenkins.
