WMHS performs at Comerica Park
By Sarah Shurge – “This was an incredible opportunity for our students to experience,” said David Mety, Wayne Memorial High School Band Director.
On Friday, April 14th, the Wayne Memorial High School (WMHS) Marching Band performed before the Detroit Tigers baseball game at Comerica Park in Detroit.
“Playing the Star Spangled Banner for a major league sports team is something they won’t forget,” said Mety. “The students represented Wayne Memorial with pride and they were very excited to be able to showcase their talents.”
About 70 members of the WMHS Marching Band performed the National Anthem before the San Francisco Giants vs. Detroit Tigers MLB game. The game’s final score was 5-7, leaving the Tigers with a 4-9 record.
“I think one of my favorite moments was hearing the alumni and parents cheering for us as we took the field to play the anthem,” said Mety. “That was something that resonated deeply with me and was a reminder of just how much pride this school has.” As a former WMHS marching band member myself, I think this was an awesome experience for the students to cherish and look back on in the future.
